"THPA" Singapore's PM2.5 Management Act: A Solution Thailand Should Consider

Transboundary haze is an environmental problem that has severely affected the quality of life of Singaporeans. In particular, during the 2013 haze crisis, PM2.5 levels soared to 401 micrograms per cubic meter, far exceeding the hazardous level set by the World Health Organization (WHO) of 25 micrograms per cubic meter over a 24-hour period. The haze is mostly caused by forest burning in Indonesia for commercial agriculture, such as palm oil and pulpwood plantations. The crisis has taken a toll on Singaporeans' health and hit the country's economy hard.
